Doda, December 2, 2024: In an effort to raise awareness and combat the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS, District Health Society Doda, Government Medical College (GMC) Doda, and the J&K AIDS Control Society collaborated to observe World AIDS Day 2024. A series of impactful events and activities were organized at GMC (Ghat) Doda to mark the occasion under the global theme of "Ending the HIV Epidemic: Resilience and Impact."
The program commenced with a symposium where healthcare professionals and students presented papers on various aspects of HIV/AIDS, including its prevention, treatment, and the societal challenges faced by individuals living with the condition. Eminent speakers delivered inspiring lectures, emphasizing the importance of early detection, safe practices, and the need to eradicate stigma and discrimination against those affected.
Adding a creative dimension to the event, a poster-making competition was held, which saw enthusiastic participation from students. The artworks vividly depicted themes of awareness, compassion, and resilience in fighting HIV/AIDS. The winners of the competition were felicitated by the dignitaries present.
A health awareness camp was also set up to provide information on HIV testing, counseling, and preventive measures. Participants were encouraged to undergo voluntary testing and seek guidance from the healthcare professionals available on-site.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Medical Officer of Doda highlighted the critical role of community engagement and education in combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic. She reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring accessible healthcare services and reducing the prevalence of new infections.
The program concluded with a pledge-taking ceremony, where attendees committed to supporting individuals affected by HIV/AIDS and working towards creating a more inclusive and empathetic society.
