Mughal Road Snow Clearance Completed from Shopian Side: Final Traffic Decision Pending
Shopian, December 30: The Mechanical Engineering Department (MED) of Shopian has successfully completed snow clearance operations on the Mughal Road up to Peer Ki Gali, marking a significant achievement ahead of the scheduled deadline.
The Mughal Road, a vital link connecting the districts of Shopian in South Kashmir to Poonch in the Jammu region, remains a critical route for travelers and traders. Peer Ki Gali, situated at a high altitude, often experiences heavy snowfall during winter, making snow clearance an arduous task for the authorities.
The MED Shopian team worked tirelessly to clear the snow from the Shopian side, ensuring the route up to Peer Ki Gali is accessible. The operations were completed hours ahead of the expected schedule, demonstrating efficient planning and execution.

Despite the successful clearance on the Shopian side, traffic will not resume on the Mughal Road immediately. Authorities are awaiting clearance from the Poonch side, where snow clearance operations are still underway. Additionally, a final assessment of the road’s traffic worthiness is required before any vehicular movement can be allowed.

Travelers and local residents are advised to await official updates before planning any journeys on the Mughal Road. The reopening of this critical route is eagerly anticipated, as it not only reduces travel time but also provides an alternative to the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

Authorities have commended the efforts of the MED Shopian team for their dedication and efficiency in handling snow clearance operations. Further updates will be issued once the Poonch side operations are completed and the road is deemed safe for vehicular traffic.
