Jammu and Kashmir’s Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Kumar Choudhary, recently chaired a high-level meeting to review the region's winter preparedness, emphasizing the need for effective coordination and swift responses to ensure minimal disruption during harsh weather conditions. The review was focused on prioritizing snow clearance, maintaining essential services, and safeguarding citizens amid the challenges posed by winter.

During the meeting, officials reported that over 10,000 kilometers of roads across the Union Territory have been identified as priority routes for snow clearance. To tackle the task, a fleet of 310 snow clearance machines has been mobilized, ensuring prompt and efficient responses to snowfall events.

The Deputy CM directed all departments to ensure uninterrupted essential services, such as electricity, water supply, and healthcare facilities, even in remote and high-altitude areas. He also stressed the importance of maintaining smooth supply chains for food, fuel, and other critical commodities. Departments were instructed to stay vigilant and closely monitor operations through virtual platforms to address emerging issues in real time.

Highlighting the importance of citizen safety, the Deputy CM emphasized collaboration among various agencies, including local administrations, disaster management authorities, and law enforcement. He called for a proactive approach in addressing public grievances, especially those related to power outages, road blockages, and emergency medical services.

Choudhary also urged officials to ensure that public communication channels remain open, allowing citizens to report emergencies and access timely assistance. He commended the efforts of field personnel working in challenging conditions and assured that the government would provide all necessary support to enhance their capabilities.

The meeting concluded with a strong commitment to ensuring that the winter season poses minimal inconvenience to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, with all departments working in unison to mitigate the impact of harsh weather.
