Bronze Glory for J&K Fencers at National Championship

Determination and Skill Propel Sabre Team to Podium Finish in Patna
 
Jammu December 9: The Jammu & Kashmir Sabre Fencing Team delivered an outstanding performance, clinching a bronze medal at the recently concluded 32nd Junior National Fencing Championship (Boys & Girls) held in Patna, Bihar, from December 2 to 5, 2024.  

The team, comprising Harshit Kohli, Amish Sharma, Vatsal Gandotra, and Vaibhav Abrol, showcased remarkable skill and determination throughout the tournament. In the round of 16, J&K defeated Telangana with a score of 15-10, followed by a commanding victory over Manipur in the quarterfinals with a 45-25 margin. However, their journey to the finals ended in a nail-biting semifinal against Maharashtra, where they narrowly lost 45-42, settling for the bronze medal.  

The team was coached by former national fencer Mr. Gourav Thakur and managed by Mrs. Anuradha Sharma. Their participation in the championship was cleared by the Screening Committee of the J&K Sports Council.  

Ms. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, congratulated the medal winners and extended her best wishes for their future competitions. She praised their dedication and highlighted the importance of supporting young talent in sports.  

The J&K Fencing Association (JKFA), along with International Referee Rashid Ahmed Chowdhary, senior coaches Ms. Rachna Jamwal and Mr. Shotu Lal Sharma, and senior fencers including Adarsh Salathia, Adv. Supriya Chouhan, Maninder Pal Singh, Ujjwal Gupta, Ajay Khatrol, and Anthony Mattoo, lauded the team’s achievement and commended their hard work and resilience.  

This victory not only marks a proud moment for J&K in fencing but also inspires aspiring athletes in the region to excel in the sport.
