In an important meeting today, Satish Sharma, the Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, reviewed the functioning of the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department. The review focused on addressing challenges, streamlining the Public Distribution System (PDS), and ensuring the efficient distribution of essential commodities to citizens across the region.
During the review, Sharma underscored the department’s role in serving the public and stressed the importance of making the PDS more transparent, efficient, and people-friendly. He highlighted that the PDS plays a crucial role in supporting economically vulnerable sections, and therefore, a well-regulated and transparent system is essential to ensure equitable access to food grains and other essential items.
The Minister also urged department officials to enhance accountability measures and adopt technology solutions for tracking and monitoring the distribution process. He noted that these improvements would not only minimize instances of leakages and corruption but also foster greater trust among the public. Sharma added that feedback mechanisms should be strengthened to promptly address consumer grievances.
Officials were directed to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to establish a robust supply chain and to actively seek solutions for any logistical challenges faced in rural and urban areas. In addition, Sharma encouraged the development of outreach programs to educate consumers about their entitlements and the resources available to them through the PDS.
Sharma concluded by expressing his commitment to bringing positive changes in the PDS and reiterated that the welfare of citizens remains the government’s top priority. The review marked an important step in the Department’s efforts to reform the system, ensuring that every beneficiary receives quality service and support through a more accountable and transparent framework.
