Samba, October 17, 2024 – In a significant move to enhance agricultural practices and boost the rural economy, Deputy Commissioner Samba, Sh. Rajesh Sharma, chaired a comprehensive meeting to review the implementation of the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) in the district. The meeting saw the participation of various stakeholders, including district officials and representatives from agricultural departments, to assess the progress and chart a way forward for sustainable agricultural development.
Key Focus Areas:
During the meeting, several crucial aspects of agricultural development were discussed, with a special focus on:
1. Promotion of Vegetable Cultivation – Efforts to increase vegetable production were highlighted, with an emphasis on providing farmers with modern techniques and support to enhance yields.
2. Beekeeping – Recognizing its potential for boosting rural income, the promotion of beekeeping was prioritized, with plans to provide training and infrastructure to support local apiculture.
3. Rainfed Area Development – Sh. Rajesh Sharma stressed the importance of developing rainfed areas to maximize their agricultural output, particularly through the adoption of water conservation techniques and appropriate cropping systems.
4. Medicinal Plant Farming – The cultivation of medicinal plants was discussed as an emerging sector that holds significant potential for farmers in the region.
Beneficiaries and Support:
A total of 815 beneficiaries were approved under various schemes aimed at supporting farmers in their ventures. These schemes cover financial aid, technical guidance, and access to resources essential for scaling up agricultural production. The focus also extended to allied sectors like:
Animal Husbandry
Fisheries
Sericulture
These sectors were identified as critical areas for diversifying the income streams of farmers and boosting overall economic resilience in the district.
Call for Collaboration:
Addressing the participants, Sh. Rajesh Sharma emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among different departments, banks, and farmers to ensure the successful implementation of the HADP. He called for the prioritization of loan sponsorships to assist farmers in obtaining financial support for expanding their agricultural operations. The DC also highlighted the importance of fostering partnerships between the government and the private sector to further enhance agricultural productivity and market access for local produce.
