On the occasion of National Unity Day, commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, flagged off the “Run for Unity” in Srinagar. Addressing the gathering, Omar Abdullah emphasized that the principles of tolerance and unity have always been intrinsic to the culture of Kashmir, shaped by the teachings of revered saints like Sheikh Nur Ud Din Noorani (RA) and Lal Dedh, who promoted peace, harmony, and mutual respect. He highlighted the role of Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah, affectionately remembered as "Sher-e-Kashmir," who worked tirelessly to uphold these ideals.

“This event is more than just a run; it’s a symbol of our commitment to peace and unity, values instilled in us by our forefathers and spiritual leaders,” Abdullah remarked. He urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to continue embodying these principles and nurture the spirit of unity and cooperation.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from people of all ages, reinforcing the message of unity. Participants ran through the scenic streets of Srinagar, carrying forward the legacy of Sardar Patel’s vision of an integrated India while honoring the unique traditions of tolerance that define Kashmiri society.
