Ramban: According to an official order issued by the Office of the District Magistrate, Ramban, in view of the upcoming Assembly elections, the sale and distribution of liquor will be completely banned in the district from 16th to 18th September 2024. The order was issued on 15th September 2024.
As per the order, the Assembly elections are scheduled for 18th September 2024, and to maintain a peaceful atmosphere during the election process, this decision has been taken. Under Section 135C of the Jammu and Kashmir People's Act 1951, the sale and distribution of liquor is prohibited 48 hours before polling to avoid any disruption to the election process.
The District Magistrate's order clearly states that all liquor shops, bars, and liquor vendors must cease the sale and distribution of liquor from 6:00 PM on 16th September 2024 to 6:00 PM on 18th September 2024.
All police stations and checkpoints have been instructed to ensure that no illegal sale or distribution of liquor takes place in rural areas. Strict instructions have also been issued to prevent the illegal smuggling of liquor.
A copy of the order has been sent to the Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ramban, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Ramban, Tehsildars, and other concerned authorities for their information.
This step has been taken to prevent any unwanted incidents during the election and to ensure the smooth conduct of the voting process.
